Most brand problems are really alignment problems. When the founder, sales lead and marketing team each describe the company differently, no logo can fix it.

This is the afternoon workshop format we use to get everyone on the same page.

Before the workshop

Collect five to ten short customer interviews or survey responses. Ask why customers chose you, what almost stopped them, and how they would describe you to a friend. Real words from real customers keep the session grounded.

Part 1: Who exactly do we serve? (45 minutes)

Describe your best customers in detail. Not demographics — situations. What problem were they facing when they found you? What had they already tried?

Part 2: What do we do differently? (45 minutes)

List every reason a customer might choose you. Then cross out anything a competitor could also say with a straight face. What remains is the start of your positioning.

Part 3: Why does it matter? (30 minutes)

For each difference, ask “so what?” until you reach an outcome the customer genuinely cares about: time saved, risk reduced, revenue gained.

Part 4: Write the statement (30 minutes)

Combine the results into one sentence:

For [customer], who [situation], we [what you do] so they can [outcome], unlike [alternative].

It will not be perfect, and that is fine. The value is in the shared understanding. A good agency partner can then sharpen the words and turn them into an identity.
