Why your marketing website needs a design system

Design systems are not just for product teams. Here is how a small component library makes marketing sites faster to build and easier to grow.

Interface components and design tokens on a screen

Design systems are usually associated with large product teams. But marketing websites benefit just as much — maybe more — because they change so often.

The problem with page-by-page design

When every page is designed individually, small inconsistencies creep in: slightly different buttons, spacing, headings and colours. Over time the site feels messy, and every new page takes longer to build.

Start small

A useful marketing design system does not need hundreds of components. Start with the building blocks you use most:

  • Typography scale and colour tokens
  • Buttons and links
  • Section headings
  • Cards for services, projects and articles
  • Testimonials, pricing and FAQ blocks
  • Forms and calls-to-action

Connect design and code

Use the same names in your design file and your codebase. When a designer says “service card, dark variant”, everyone should know exactly what that means.

Document the why

Short notes on when to use each component prevent most misuse. A paragraph is enough.

The payoff is speed. New landing pages go from weeks to days, and the brand looks consistent everywhere.
